Whatcom County Hardwood Alternative

Whatcom County Company creates hardwood alternative

June 4th, 2006

Chemco located 20 miles north of Bellingham in the beautiful North West has recently developed a new wood product that is strong and durable like hardwood but comes from easily plantation grown pine. Local fine furniture craftsman Randy Stribling, owner of Stribling Design Woodworks recently had an opportunity to try some of the wood products. He loves the idea of having wood that looks and feels like endangered hardwoods of South America, but comes from a sustainable source and the process to make the wood is not toxic. Another nice thing about the process that makes the wood is the color and durablity throughout the piece, not like a stain or top coating where only that outer layer is the color you want. Watch for Alowood in a lumber yard near you.
Randy Stribling has worked for us in recreating a craftsman home ‘look and feel’ in our 1965 remodel project. We are realtors with RE/Max here in Whatcom County. Because of Randy’s good work, our home has appreciated significantly in the past two years.
